What does my comprehensive eye exam include?
Your vision is important to us. It is recommended by our optometrists to have a full eye exam once ever year.

Updated Glasses Prescription
During the preliminary testing, our staff uses an autorefractor and lensometer. An autorefractor gives a quick estimate of your prescription and measures the curvature of your eye. A lensometer checks the power of your current glasses. During the exam, your optometrist performs a refraction to refine your glasses prescription. Together, these tools help to ensure you get the most comfortable vision possible.
Retina Scan
Starting from the age of 6, our doctors recommend patients do a retina scan every year. The retina scan is a non-invasive procedure to help monitor your eye health. Our Danforth location specifically offers Optomap imaging.
Dilation & Tonometry
Dilation uses eye drops to widen your pupils, allowing your optometrist to see inside your eyes more clearly and check for conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Tonometry measures the intraocular pressure of your eyes. This is an important element of detecting glaucoma early. These tests are quick, painless, and essential to protecting your long-term vision.

Retina Scan & Optical Coherence Tomography
Retinal Imaging
A retina scan is a quick imaging test that captures an ultra-widefield picture of the back of your eye. This allows our optometrists to detect early signs of eye diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal tears. Retina scans help protect your vision, support early treatment, and monitor any subtle changes in ocular health.
Optical Coherence Tomography
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) uses light waves to create detailed cross-sectional images of the retina’s individual layers. This allows our optometrists to detect signs of eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and swelling in the retina that may not yet be visible in a standard retinal photo. An OCT is a more in depth scan of the eye compared to a retinal image.

Contact Lens Fitting & Assessment
Interested in contact lenses or need an updated contact lens prescription?
Contact lens prescriptions are different from glasses prescriptions and involve a separate process to find lenses that work the best for your eyes. Dedicated to fitting the lenses best suited for you, our optometrists not only fine-tune the prescription but also select lenses that fit the shape of your eyes for optimal comfort and corneal integrity as each contact lens is different in material, shape, and size.
*Please note that contact lens assessments and fittings are an additional part of a comprehensive eye exam. Let our staff know that you are a contact lens wearer when booking your appointment.
Interested in becoming a contact lens wearer?
Not to worry! Our contact lens fittings include lens insertion and removal training for new wearers of any age. Let the doctor know of your interest in wearing contact lenses to get the process started.

Myopia Management
Myopia management is specialized care for children and young adults with nearsightedness. Instead of just correcting vision with glasses, our myopia management program involves the use of specialty designed therapeutic lenses, contact lenses, or lifestyle guidance to help slow the progression of myopia. Managing myopia early reduces the risk of future eye health problems and helps protect long-term vision. Speak to your optometrist to learn more!
